Culture Grid

How to add

Last modified: May 25, 2010

You can easily and efficiently add collections information to the Culture Grid so that it can be appropriately joined and opened up to have greater reach and value.

Collections information can be added from the Culture Grid in the following ways:

  • Push for large amounts of information that do not change often  and / or where the pull method is not possible
  • Pull for large amounts of information that are likely to change fairly often
  • Enter for small amounts of information

The push method uses a Desktop based Upload Tool or a RESTful submission API to add information into the Culture Grid and again is mainly used for information about the items in collections.

The pull method uses the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) to add information into the Culture Grid and is mainly used for information about the items in collections.

Information about items in collections should be provided to the Culture Grid in this format.  You can download a spreadsheet to map your collections information to this format and can then send it to Collections Trust for review.

The enter method uses a set of simple online forms to add information directly into the Culture Grid and is mainly used for information about collections and collecting organisations.

Tell us about collections information you wish to add to the Culture Grid and we’ll get back to you to discuss options and next steps.
