Description: | Women's Cooperative Guild file of plays and pageants, 1948-1962; Pageant of Labour script and music; National Council for Civil Liberties, or 'Liberty' file on the censorship of plays, 1943-1958; British Union of Anti-Vivisectionists file 'plays 1950', including typescript of 'The Witch of Winterglow Hill', plus three plays 'The Shadow Between' anonymous, 'Vaccination' by Roy Horniman, `Not a sparrow falls', P Lesbirel; among the papers of Phillipa Burrell there are numerous letters and some papers relating to her connections with the theatre, and especially the German and Russian theatre; the Chichester family papers contain programmes for the amateur theatre production of 'Maurice the Woodcutter' at St. James Barracks 1841 and the Garrison Theatre performance of 'St. Patrick's Eve'; there are 6 theatre programmes in the papers of Winifrid Horrabin from 1938 to 1943, and 40 in the papers of Robin Page Arnot from 1953 to 1970; programmes for 'Rigoletto' at the Theatre Royal Cairo and 'Laburnum Grove' at the Papadopoulos Theatre; National Theatre programme for ' John Betjemin: A Celebration' with introduction by Philip Larkin; programme of amateur theatricals at the Theatre Royal in Malton, 1888; a file of correspondence relating to the Little Theatre (Hull) Ltd. 1953; notice for a performance of 'The Miser' and 'The Farmer' at the Theatre Royal Beverley, 1789; there are also architectural drawings for proposed alterations to the Bosco Empire Theatre, Hull among the papers of local historian Kenneth Macmahon; a black and white slide showing Queen's Theatre Hull; a programme of The Start Picture Theatre, Hornsea from 1930; there is an advertising folder for 'Charlie's Aunt' at the Globe Theatre; files relating to Hull Truck or Humberside Theatre among the papers of Kevin McNamara MP; papers of the poet and writer Philip Larkin (1922-85), including unpublished plays; among the miscellaneous collections of deposited and donated items [DX; DP & DDX] there is a photocopy of a handbill and poster for the Beverley and East Riding Mechanics Institute 1843, photocopies of playbills for the Theatre Royal Hull 1808 to 1810, and actual playbills for 1833 to 1834, and playbills for the New Theatre, Lowgate, Hull, 1795.; Catalogues and lists are available in the Library and the National Register of Archives; copies of which are also available on-line via the the World Wide Web. Card indexes arranged by person and place are available in the Archives Reading Room, as is a card catalogue of the Theatre Playbills. The playbills are listed on the Brynmor Jones Library Main catalogue, also available on the Web.
