Description: | Printed theatre materials are scattered throughout the general collection of printed books, although specific collections (some of which are mentioned below) are kept together. They cover every aspect of the theatre and its history. There are theatre histories, biographies and autobiographies of players and others associated with the stage, acting manuals, works on design and staging, many editions of plays from the famous to the utterly obscure. There are extensive collections of playbills and programmes, several important scrapbook collections and a number of extra-illustrated theatre histories. The newspaper and periodical collections are also a key resource for theatre history in all its aspects. There are a very large number of individual collections within the area.
