View of Messina Alternative Title: Off the Isle of Malta
Though currently attributed as Italian School, more research is needed to establish whether or not this View of Messina was in fact painted by the British marine painter John Thomas Serres. Previously thught to be a view of Malta, it was first recognised as Messina by the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, in 1964.
