Description: | Carved wooden statuette of the Madonna and Child, with traces of red paint and gilding. The Virgin Mary wears a draped cloak, her hair is long and wavy and is surmounted by a flat crown. The Christ Child holds an orb. He is depicted as a miniature adult rather than as a baby. The figure is flat at the back. The base is drilled for a peg, perhaps to locate the figure among a group. The Virgin's head is quite flat, as if it might have carried a detachable metal crown.
