Description: | Brixton Empress, Brighton Terrace, Brixton. The theatre, built in the Art Deco style, opened in 1898 when Brixton was establishing itself as an important commercial centre, with large shops, a public library and two theatres, this one being mainly a venue for variety shows. Taken between October 1966 and November1971, it shows the theatre being converted into a Bingo Hall. Following a failed attempt to save the building in the late 1990s it was replaced by a block of flats. | License: | http://www.lambethlandmark.com/terms.html | Subjects: | Theatres Bingo Halls Theatres and Amphitheatres Concert and Music Halls | Temporal: | 1951-01-01T00:00:00/1970-12-31T23:59:00 | Source: | Lambeth Landmark | Creator: | Lambeth Libraries | Identifier: | http://landmark.lambeth.gov.uk/display_p... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
