Description: | The view up the Grand Canal towards the Rialto Bridge is one of the most splendid scenes in the picturesque Italian city of Venice. On the left of this view is the Palazzo Balbi, with a red cloth draping the balcony. A large passenger barge is on the right, and smaller gondolas are being poled across the canal. The picture follows closely the format and colours used by the great Venetian view painter Antonio Canaletto for his paintings of the Grand Canal. The picture may have been painted by one of his pupils. | License: | http://www.imagine.org.uk/about/copyright/ | Rights holder: | Tyne & Wear Museums | Subjects: | beyond the North East artists oil paintings art buildings men women | Source: | Tyne and Wear Imagine | Identifier: | http://www.imagine.org.uk/details/index.... | Go to resource |
