Description: | Signed: yes Description: Although his parents were Dutch, Abraham Hulk was born in London. He studied at the Dutch Academy in Amsterdam and also under the German-born painter Jean Augustin Daiwaille, who died in Rotterdam, 1850. In the early 1830s he visited North America before he returned to Holland. In 1870 he came to England, where he spent the last 27 years of his life. A painter who was a master of atmospheric marine scenes, his early work was in the manner of the Dutch tradition.
