Description: Relief of the Virgin and Child, painted and gilt stucco. The half-length Virgin embraces Christ Child who is standing on her left-hand side. The face of the Virgin touches the face of Christ Child, who clasps His mother?s veil with his left hand and holds himself on his mother?s right shoulder with his right hand. A classical-style band runs across the top of the Virgin?s head and through her curly hair, showing from the veil pushed backwards. Both the haloes are finely decorated. In the top part of the relief there is a garland hanging behind the Virgin?s head. The relief is in a glazed rectangular carved and gilt wood frame | Format: | text/html | License: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/terms.htm | Publisher: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Rights holder: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Subjects: | sculpture Desiderio da Settignano relief | Temporal: | name=3rd quarter 15th century; start=1450; end=1460 | Source: | Fitzwilliam Museum | Creator: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Identifier: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opacdire... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | text/html | Go to resource |
