Description: Terracotta, modelled in the round. The bearded River God reclines on a rectangular base decorated with weeds. His left arm rests on an urn decorated with shells, with water flowing from its mouth. His right hand is raised and holds the end of his paddle (the central part of its stem is missing). His left leg is bent and crossed over his right and a drape passes over it and under his right leg. The terracotta is accompanied by a rectangular wooden base with a beaded lower moulding, painted green with the remnants of a gilt band at the top, probably 19th century. | Format: | text/html | License: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/terms.htm | Publisher: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Rights holder: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Subjects: | sculpture figure Caffieri, Jean Jacques | Temporal: | name=mid-18th Century; start=1755; end=1755 | Source: | Fitzwilliam Museum | Creator: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Identifier: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opacdire... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | text/html | Go to resource |
