Description: Virgin and Child. Alabaster, carved in the round. The Virgin wears a crown over her veil and holds the naked Child in her right arm. The hands of the Child are lost in the veil of the Virgin with which he plays. The drapery folds are voluminous and completely disguise the figure beneath. The group is supported on a wooden stand of octagonal shape with moulded sides and central spike to put into a hole in the base. | Format: | text/html | License: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/terms.htm | Publisher: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Rights holder: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Subjects: | School of the Lower Rhine sculpture figure | Temporal: | name=15th century; start=1400; end=1500 | Source: | Fitzwilliam Museum | Creator: | The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK | Identifier: | http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opacdire... | Language: | en-GB | Format: | text/html | Go to resource |
