Description: | The Reference and Local Studies section of the library include various holdings of theatrical interest, as follows. The library contains approximately 50 programmes for the Palace Theatre and the Victoria Theatre (20th century); theatre programmes, musical events and exhibitions programmes, September to October 1986 to date for the Burnley Mechanics' Arts and Entertainment Centre; programmes for Dame Clara Butt's provincial tour April 1915 (at Burnley Mechanics' Institute) April 13,1915 and January to March 1916; Welfare State Theatre Company newscuttings, 1974-1975; reports and correspondence on setting up a civic theatre, 1946-1966; 30 photographs of local theatres; and records for 19th century and 20th century amateur societies, including Burnley Light Opera Society, Accrington Road Methodist Operatic and Dramatic Society, Burnley Operatic Society, St. Catherine's Amateur Operatic Society, Burnley Players, Burnley Youth Theatre, Burnley Drama Guild, St. Aloysius's School Dramatic Entertainment, St. Mary's Dramatic Class.; Computer catalogue, arranged by author, title and class number; photographs filed in class number order.
