The translation of its inscriptions is: "How deplorable is the luck of the unfortunate soldier! /When the war is over, his misfortune starts again; / Thus he has to leave protesting loudly, / And his beggary amuses the peasant, / Who curses his compagny, and considers it an insult / To see present the liable for the troubles he undergoes." This is a copy by SCHENK, Leornadus, etched in the 18th century. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | TROOP : WOUNDED : WAR : BEGGAR : DEATH : SOLDIER : TREE : PRIEST : DEATH : EXTREME UNCTION : MISERY OF WAR : SET : VOLUME : COPY : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
