(3) stamp; v. square stamp of Miss Rosalind Birnie Philip PRINT WAY, Thomas Robert; (English; 1861-1913) CRE WHISTLER, James McNeill; (American; 1834-1903) Whistler drew this image in the summer of 1884. The Luxembourg was close to Whistler?s studio on the rue Notre Dame des Champs, and he had already produced a number of studies of the garden, in a variety of different media. The composition of this lithograph is related to an etching by Whistler, entitled "The Balustrade, Luxembourg Gardens" (Kennedy 427). This lithograph was printed by Thomas Way.
