Description: | RH Stamped with a collector's mark in blue ink b. r. on verso: "H.M.P" CRE GERICAULT, Theodore; (French; 1791-1824) NFA assisted purchase. This is a rare experimental lithograph printed from a stone-coated paper - the method is described by Senefelder in his Lehrbuch der Lithographie und des Steindruckes, Munich, 1821. Delteil knew only of 6 impressions (not including this one). In his prints Gericault, the great Romantic painter, takes on the character of the genre artist, under the influence of popular lithographs of the period. (He had learnt the technique from Carle Vernet). | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | CARICATURE : FRENCH : FISH : SLEEP : MERCHANT : DOG : ROMANTICISM : ROMANTIC ART : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
