Description: | Ms letter (4pp) written during his service as a Corporal with the 2nd Battalion London Regiment (Rifle Brigade) to his brother Bob, 23 September 1917, writing from a hospital in Rouen where he is being treated for a wounded hand, Kingsbury gives a graphic account of the attack on Von Tirpitz and Stroppe Farms in the Ypres Salient in which his Battalion took part on 20 September 1917, describing how, as all the officers and sergeants in his Company had been killed or wounded, he organised the capture of two German pill-boxes and helped to beat off a German counter-attack. Together with a photocopy of the citation (1p) for Kingsbury's Distinguished Conduct Medal, 5 February 1918, won in the above action.
