Description: | Collection of letters and papers relating to his service as a Private in an unidentified battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, 1916 - 1917, including a ts telegram notifying his family that he had been wounded, a ms letter from his brother asking for news (1p, December 1916), two ms letters from the Assistant Matron and Sister at No 10 General Hospital at Rouen, France to his grandmother in Manchester thanking her for sending food and money to the patients and commenting on their youth (1p and 2pp, September 1917), and a ts telegram from his parents to the hospital wishing him well; together with his discharge certificates (November 1917), employment card for soldiers discharged medically unfit, notice of his award of the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal (30 November 1921), correspondence from the Ministry of Pensions regarding his war pension on account of disability due to wounds, and a British Legion membership card (1934).
