Description: | Ms diary (78pp) giving brief details of his experiences with an unidentified unit on the Western Front (April – December 1916), including time spent in the front line trenches at Laventie, during which his dugout was hit by a shell (May), time spent at the 130th Field Hospital with a sprained ankle (May – June), divisional training at Savy (June), his involvement in the first day of the Battle of the Somme (1 July 1916) and the Battle of Mametz Wood, travel to Wormhout where he was appointed Company Clerk (August), his experiences at Ypres where he was wounded in the arm during an attempted German raid (September), his stay in the 129th Field Hospital and travel to the 8th Stationary Hospital in Boulogne (September – October), his hospitalisation with influenza (October), his return to the regiment and training at the 2nd Army School of Musketry (December).
