Description: | Bound ts transcript (159pp), with a few ms additions, of the diary which he kept at irregular intervals during his service as a sergeant and eventually RQMS in the 8th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) (11th Division) during their voyage to the eastern Mediterranean in the AQUITANIA (July 1915) and then at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli (August - December 1915), in Egypt (February - June 1916) and on the Western Front (July 1916 - February 1918), including the battles of Flers-Courcelette and Thiepval Ridge on the Somme (September 1916) and the Battles of Messines Ridge (June 1917) and 3rd Ypres (August and October 1917); and finally well behind the line in France as RQMS of the 11th Battalion Machine Gun Corps (11th Division) from March - May 1918 and of the 15th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (40th Division) from June 1918 until his demobilisation in January 1919. His descriptions of the landing and fighting at Suvla Bay in August 1915 are particularly interesting and there is also a useful reference to the award of the Victoria Cross to Private Loosemoore of the 8th Duke of Wellington's at Ypres in August 1917.
