Description: | Microfilm of his ts transcription (142pp) of his diary recording his active service, April 1916 - 1919, in the ranks with the 3/4th Battalion Cameron Highlanders in Ripon, Yorkshire which was disbanded in July 1916, the 5th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (152nd Brigade, 51st Division), and his mainly administrative work as an NCO with the Machine Gun Corps in France and Belgium, having enlisted under the Derby Scheme in November 1915 while engaged on work of National importance but not being called up until April 1916, and describing his experiences on the Western Front notably the conditions, his participation in the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917, being Mentioned in Despatches for his work between March 1918 and October 1918, and expressing the disgust of the troops at the constant labour trouble and strikes by workers in the UK.
