Description: | A series of 67 ms/ts letters (156pp in total) written during her service with the Scottish Women's Hospitals, October 1915 - December 1918, describing her voyage out via Malta and Athens to Salonika (October 1915 - January 1916), her billets and life in Salonika town, meetings with fellow nurses, and her care of Serbian refugees with a Scottish Women's Hospital unit under Dr Mary Blair; then her experiences as a Serbian relief administrator working with refugees in Ajaccio, Corsica (April 1916 - October 1917), referring to her duties and organisation of the refugees, shortages of food and supplies, recreational activities, and expansions to the provision of medical care; and finally back in London (December 1918) where she describes her social activities. Together with a ms account (12pp) of her escape from Germany after the outbreak of war in August 1914; a ms diary (27pp) covering her passage to Salonika and relief work there, October 1915 - January 1916; a ts account (3pp) of a 13 year old refugee from Belgrade's trek through Albania with the Serbian Army to escape capture, April 1916; an undated ts account (4pp) entitled 'The Serb as a Refugee' describing the Serbian people's character; an undated ts account (8pp) entitled 'Corsica: Organisation' describing the organisation of the refugee accommodation, the psychological profile of the refugees and details of administration; her Army Certificate of Identity from Corsica; two ms letters (8pp) written by her brother George Royds, serving with the 1/4th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment (42nd Indian Brigade) in Mesopotamia and describing his passage up the Tigris to Baghdad in April 1917; and First World War French travel passes and resident permits relating to George Innes (whom she later married) who was a member of the Society of Friends Quaker relief mission.
