Description: | Photocopy of ts memoir (95pp) of his military service, August 1914 - June 1919, including a period as a batman and later mess Sergeant with the 2nd Battalion HAC in London, August 1914 - April 1915, then as 2nd Lieutenant with the 3rd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Edinburgh, May - August 1915, followed by a posting to the 6th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (152nd Infantry Brigade, 51st Division), August 1915 - March 1916, in which he describes conditions in the trenches and the German attack during which he won the MC, March 1916, after which he served with 11th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (45th Brigade, 15th Division), March 1916 - July 1917, during the Battles of the Somme, August - November 1916, Battles of Arras and 3rd Battle of Ypres, August - November 1917, before transferring to the Military Police and becoming Assistant Provost Marshal of Arras, February - October 1918, during which time the town suffered during the German March offensive and through the excesses of Canadian troops, then of Douai, Valenciennes, Mons, La Louviere, Namur, and Solingen in Germany, until posted as DAPM of 2nd Corps Heavy Artillery Area, April 1919, and finally of Bonn, April - June 1919.
