Description: | Four ms pocket diaries (24pp, 26pp, 78pp and 47pp), August 1914 - March 1917, together with an illustrated ts transcription (90pp) including later recollections, written during his military service as a NCO with the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers (10th Brigade, 4th Division) on the Western Front (September 1914 - February 1915), then with the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers (31st Brigade, 10th Division) at Gallipoli (September 1915) and in Serbia and Salonika (October 1915 - April 1916), transferring to the 31st Company Machine Gun Corps (31st Brigade, 10th Division) while in Salonika (May 1916 - March 1917), containing brief but regular entries describing trench life, his living conditions, the harsh winter in Serbia and their retreat into Macedonia, his hospitalisation in Salonika suffering from jaundice and bronchitis, air raids and recreational activities; the transcript includes photographs of Flanagan in uniform. Together with a small booklet entitled 'Leek & District Sailors and Soldiers Roll of Honour, 1914-1915' and a photocopied illustration (1p) by R C Lewis showing the landing at Suvla Bay.
