Description: | Diary in 7 volumes covering his service as a Royal Garrison Artillery officer in France, March 1915 - November 1918, commanding a howitzer battery from October 1916 onwards, and serving as ADC to General Plumer, 2nd Army Commander from February to April 1916, describing his involvement in the Battles of Aubers Ridge, the Somme, Arras, Third Ypres and the Allied retreat in March 1918, before service with the Army of Occupation in Germany in 1919; together with an important diary and related papers covering his command of the advanced base at Larissa, Greece, and of the evacuation from Kalamata during the Greek campaign, 1941.
