Description: | 11 photocopied ms letters (26pp) written to his wife during his service with the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (Dehra Dun Brigade, 7th (Meerut) Division) both in France (between September 1914 and December 1915) and Mesopotamia (from December 1915) (19th Indian Brigade, 7th (Meerut) Division), describing primarily family matters, but with some mention of the difficult conditions in the trenches with the rain, cold and lack of food. He later died from cholera on 20th May 1916. Also included in the collection are 3 photocopied ms letters (6pp) written to his widow from various colleagues sending sympathy and remembering him, and photocopies of his discharge certificate and his warrant officer promotion in October 1915.
