Description: | British troops in a wrecked German light railway engine at Combles, 5 February, 1917. The carriage is inscribed with a message reading: "Never Budge. C. J. Griffin, 1/1 Lancs RGA Leave Train".
The message might refer to the 1/1 Lancashire Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. There is only one C. J. Griffin on the Medal Index Card - Gunner/Driver Charles J. Griffin 27908, died on 11 November 1918. At the time of his death served with the 9th Siege Battery RGA.
