Description: | Head-and-part-shoulders white-painted plaster bust of Admiral Sir John Jervis facing slightly to sitter's right, head bowed, bare shoulders and head, on a round socle. The back area, where the support rising from the socle connects with the bust proper, is very summarily and untidily finished.
This item was presented in November 1946 by the widow of Colonel Swynfen John Jervis, a distant relative of the sitter.
The authorship is not known but it may be a copy after Chantrey, from whom St Vincent ordered his own marble bust in December 1815. The plaster model is in the Chantrey studio collection in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. | Publisher: | "http://collections.rmg.co.uk/" | Subjects: | busts Jervis John | Source: | Royal Museums Greenwich | Identifier: | http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections... | Go to resource |
