Description: | Scale 1:48. A contemporary full hull model of a British yacht circa 1725, built in the Georgian style. The model is decked with a variety of fittings such as a tiller, capstan and a large wooden windlass in the bow. It is also mounted on an original wooden baseboard.
Past research would suggest that this model is a proposed design for the rebuild of the former Royal Yacht ?Fubbs?, originally launched in 1682 and rebuilt in 1724. The shields above the quarter-windows show the three buckles of the dukedom of Aubigny, granted by Louise de Kerouaille, Duchess of Portsmouth, after whom the ?Fubbs? yacht was named. However, the scale of this model would produce a deck length of 72 feet by 22 feet beam and an approximate tonnage of 150 burthen. This is slightly smaller than the dimensions of the rebuilt ?Fubbs? of 1724. Rigged as a two- masted ketch and carrying six 3-pounder guns, ?Fubbs? was eventually broken up in 1781.
CA: AAA.
