Description: | Full hull model of the 'Erini' (active 1970), a Silhouette class cruising yacht. Built plank on frame at a scale of 1:8, it is a working model and can be displayed rigged or unrigged with the sails furled or set. ?Erini Penzance? is inscribed on the stern. It was made from plans of the actual vessel.
The first Silhouette was launched on the Medway in 1954. Designed to be a step between the dinghy and the sailing cruiser, the 17ft Silhouette could be brought as a DIY kit or ready built. It was also small enough to be towed on a trailer, thus eliminating the need to maintain an expensive mooring. It was also fitted with twin bilge keels which enabled it to stay upright if a mooring dried out at low water.
