One of a set of 6, this is inspired by the festival of his Highness the grand Duke of Tuscany, "The War of Beauty", and is an illustration from the book "Guerra d'Amore", by Andrea Salvadori (1591-1635), dated 1616. The festival is held in the Piazza St. Croix, Florence. Celebrating the fat Thursday before Lent, it was chosen by Cosimo II to honour his wife, Maria Magdalena, with a triumphant procession, mock battle, and equestrian ballet. | License: | http://www.hmag.gla.ac.uk/spirit/rights/ | Publisher: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Rights holder: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Subjects: | CHARIOT : PROCESSION : FLORENCE : FESTIVAL : ITALY : MOUNT PARNASSUS : PEGASUS : MUSICIAN : DANCER : MEDICI : SET : FAT THURSDAY : PIAZZA SANTA CROCE : WAR OF BEAUTY : | Source: | Hunterian Museum | Creator: | Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, University of Glasgow | Identifier: | http://www.huntsearch.gla.ac.uk/cgi-bin/... | Language: | en-GB | Go to resource |
