Description: | Gilded reeded None CRE WHISTLER, James McNeill; (American; 1834-1903) The view is the same as the one seen in the lithograph, "Savoy Pigeons" (Chicago 154 / Way 118). It was drawn from a window in the Savoy Hotel where the Whistler's stayed during Beatrix's last illness. Whistler has emphasised the sweep of the River Thames in this watercolour, giving it a remarkable sense of space. The bleak colour reflects the tension of the moment. Beatrix Whistler also drew this view from the same window in their Savoy Hotel room.
