Description: | Ts transcription (88pp, with photographs) of a journal written during his service as a NCO with the 27th Lines of Communication Company ASC (22nd Division), August 1915 - March 1919, describing his enlistment and training, embarkation (September 1915) and conditions during the voyage out to Lemnos via Malta including the fear of possible U-boat attack, his impressions of Gibraltar and the North African coastline, shore leave in the Maltese port of Valetta, recreational activities onboard ship such as boxing tournaments, their arrival at Mudros and transport in the captured German tramp steamer HUNTSFALL to Salonika (October 1915) where he refers to their base camp at Lembet, the fauna of Macednia and the local people, the use of mules for transport and their maltreatment by the Greeks, relations with French troops, visits to Salonika town on leave, air raids, their move to Karasuli (November 1916) and then to an advanced railhead at Gugunchi, visits to the Divisional theatre, and the state of the Bulgar trenches following the final Allied offensive (September 1918); following the Bulgarian surrender, Mussett was sent to Chanak as part of the Army of Occupation in Turkey. The collection also includes ms letters and other documents (40pp) which cover the period March 1916 - May 1919 and reinforce many of the comments made in his diary.
