Description: | Photocopy of a ms diary (165pp) kept during his service as a trooper and later NCO in the machine gun section of the Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry (2nd South West Mounted Brigade) and covering their voyage on the transport OLYMPIC from the United Kingdom to the Eastern Mediterranean (September - October 1915), their service at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli from October until the evacuation of the beachhead in December and their training at various camps in Egypt from January - August 1916. The most interesting entries describe artillery bombardments and the November blizzard at Suvla Bay and his dislike of excessive formality in aspects of their training and other duties in Egypt.
