Description: | Photocopied ms diary (38pp), with a few illustrations, kept by a member of the crew of the hospital ship HMHS MOREA, October 1915 - March 1916, during the ship's two voyages from the United Kingdom to the Eastern Mediterranean to evacuate casualties from the Gallipoli and Salonika campaigns and her one voyage to Le Havre to collect casualties from the Western Front, and including descriptions of what he saw and heard of the fighting at Suvla Bay and of their rescue of survivors from two merchant ships, the ORTERIC and BUSIRIS sunk by German submarines in the Mediterranean (9 December 1915). With the diary are a photograph of, and photocopies of a poem about him and three photocopied letters relating to his death in action and burial in France in November 1917 when serving as a private in the Machine Gun Corps.
