Description: | 'Ring Paper' (Family Allowances Certificate of Identity, AF D455) issued to his mother, Mrs M Thomson, to enable her to draw a family allowance based on his pay while serving in the Border Regiment in 1915, a printed letter (AF B104-82) dated 20 September 1915 stating that he had been killed in action on 21 August while serving with the 1st Battalion Border Regiment (87th Brigade, 29th Division) in the Dardanelles, an ms memorandum (15 July 1918) confirming that his mother is entitled to claim his 1914-15 Star and a ts note (1p) from No 1 Infantry Record Office, Preston (April 1920) explaining that his grave is in 40th Brigade Cemetery No 2 at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, together with a postcard (no date) and an ms letter (2pp) written by his brother, Alf Thomson, in November 1917 while serving in the 26th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (124th Brigade, 41st Division) describing his journey from the Western Front to Italy and his warm reception by the Italian civilians, an Easter card and a photograph of a woman seated with her two naval cadet sons.
