Description: | Ms diary (9pp), 15 August - 22 October 1914, written by him whilst serving as a Major in the Royal Army Medical Corps attached to the 1st Battalion Life Guards (7th Cavalry Brigade, 3rd Cavalry Division) on the Western Front, describing in detail embarking for France, journeying to the front, establishing a hospital at Beaumont, retreating before German forces and helping the wounded whilst doing so, the Battle of the Marne (September 1914) and organising temporary dressing stations for the wounded, running medical facilities at a camp at Vauxcere and moving up to Messines; together with 3 ms letters (9pp), October 1914 - February 1915, written to his wife including details of him being wounded and 4 telegrams, February 1915, confirming the information; 10 photographs including his RAMC colleagues; a letter saying he has been Mentioned in Despatches, 30 April 1916 and a programme for "The Commemoration of Heroic Deeds of The First Seven Divisions, Mons to Ypres, 1914". Also included are scenic postcards, a Christmas Card, a press cutting and a brochure detailing medal ribbons.
