Description: | Bound photocopied transcripts (357pp) of his letters to his family (July 1915 - April 1918) written while he was serving on the Western Front with the 8th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment (55th Brigade, 18th Division) (July 1915 - March 1916), on attachment to the Intelligence Corps mainly at HQ 1st Army (March - December 1916), and with 1st Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps (99th Brigade, 2nd Division) (December 1916 - June 1918), with excellent accounts of his experiences in the front line trenches and detailed descriptions of operations at Miraumont, south of the River Ancre (February 1917), the Battle of Arras (1917) and the German Spring Offensive (March 1918) based on his diary notes, as well as useful references to his attitudes to the war, death in and out of the front line, class differences, gas warfare (February 1918) and courts martial, together with photocopies (18pp) of correspondence received by his family (1916 - 1918), mainly in response to the circulation of his diary notes on the German Spring Offensive and to news of his MC.
