Description: | 3 diaries, November 1916 - 12 August 1919, containing very brief entries, written by him whilst serving as a Private with the South Staffordshire Regiment in Salonika, mentioning attacks by the Bulgarian Army, his duties as a labourer maintaining trenches and building and repairing roads and mule tracks, orderly and sentry duties, working in an Expeditionary Forces Canteen, reporting sick on various occasions, contracting malaria and being admitted to hospital, his correspondents and when he replied, extremes of weather, the Bulgarian forces surrendering and details of his journey back to England for demobilisation; together with an undated letter written by him to his wife, Alice, giving details of the journey to Salonika in 1916. Also included is a ts transcription (43pp) of the diaries and letter.
