Description: | Ts account (68pp) written in 1966 and based on an original diary, April 1915 - December 1917, giving a lively account of his service in the 1/9th Battalion The London Regiment (Queen Victoria's Rifles) (13th Brigade, 5th Division) on the Western Front in the Ypres Salient, May - July 1915, on the Somme, July - September 1915, in the area around Loos, September 1915 - January 1916, and then again on the Somme (as part of 169th Brigade, 56th Division), February - July 1916, during which he describes the first day of the Battle of the Somme and the offensive up to 8 July, when he was wounded and repatriated. The account ends with a very brief description of his training as an officer.
