Description: | Photocopied ts transcription (14pp) of a diary account written after his service with the 8th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (44th Brigade, 15th Division) and, from July 1917, the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (10th Brigade, 4th Division) in the United Kingdom, September 1914 - June 1915, and on the Western Front, June 1915 - October 1918, describing in brief but interesting entries his involvement in the Battle of Loos (September 1915) during which he was wounded, his medical treatment and evacuation back to hospital in Birmingham, brief home duty with the 9th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders during his recuperation in the UK (January - March 1916), his return to France and involvement in trench raids in the Hulluch sector, the Battle of the Somme (August - November 1916) and the German prisoners he saw, conditions at the Etaples Bull Ring, recreational football matches, the 3rd Battle of Ypres (October 1917) during which he was wounded and evacuated back to hospital in Colchester, and the variable standard of medical treatment he received until discharge on health grounds in October 1918.
