Description: | 108 interesting ms letters (with a photocopy of a ts transcript, 159pp), September 1914 - May 1919, written by a commercial artist together with 12 related drawings describing his service in the machine gun section of the 7th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment (78th Brigade, 26th Division), including a good account of his training in southern England (September 1914 - September 1915), his brief service in France (October - November 1915), his journey to and service at Salonika (December 1915 - September 1918) and attachment to the 4th Battalion the Rifle Brigade (80th Brigade, 27th Division) near Tiflis in South Russia, with many useful and frequently entertaining details about the conditions of his life, particularly during the winter of 1914 - 1915 and on arrival in Salonika, the local Greek and Russian populations and the fighting at Salonika on the Doiran Front including in August - September 1916.
