6" Compass / Corrector coil / Pattern 951Y / Serial No 376523
Liquid compass with dwarf binnacle. The following inscription appears twice on this object, once on the binnacle and once on the verge ring: 'Patt 1151 A/ Compass/ no. 2892K'
Bowl: Grey painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base incorporated with glazed bottom. Inside of bowl white with a black luber line carried on a white plastic strip. Mounted in the binnacle by a spring suspension anti-vibration system (unsighted).
Card: Dia. 3.75" (9.5 cm) white mica? with black markings, graduated to 360 degrees. The card carried four black parallel lines in the form of a cross. Attached to a black painted float at centre.
Needle: Unsighted.
Pivot: Unsighted.
Binnacle: Diameter 7.5" (19.0 cm) Grey painted brass, fitted with hood which has an oval glazed aperture at side, carrying handle at top and an oil lamp at the side. Mounted on a wooden stand 8.0" x 8.0" x 5.5" (20.3 x 20.3 x 14.0 cm) which carries two vertical 6.0" corrector coils and a horizontal coil 9.5" (24.4 cm) diameter. The latter is carried on four legs close to the compass bowl.
