Description: | Twenty assorted greeting cards. a) Card made of lacy paper, silvered, with a central oval printed with the words "The Royal Musical Valentine". Beneath a cut scrap mandolin and the words "your voice is music". Inside a mucic score for a Valentine song entitled " Love Me". b) Movable Valentine and envelope made of embossed lace paper. A hand coloured woodcut of a man watching a woman at the piano. Her head and arm automated by means of a tag. Beneath, an insulting poem (see notes). Envelope stamped with a penny red, sealed with red wax and postmarked. c) Envelope of embossed, silvered paper with a central rectangular panel of cream silk to which is attached a cut scrap carnation. Inside is embossed with chromolithographed hedgerow flowers, concealing a verse entitled "Constancy ". All on a perfumed sachet. d) Card of embossed paper, coloured pink and decorated with crimped ribbons and cut scrap flowers with a central oval medallion of satin, embroidered with a message. All affixed to back paper and hinged to backing paper. e) Card made of lacy paper mounted on card with a central design of a girl with a hoop in her hand, coloured velvet and cut scraps. Beneath a handwritten message "To my darling boy". f) Card of embossed paper with a crimped edge and hand coloured in ink decorated with a cut paper bust of a snowdrop festooned girl as centrepiece concealing a printed poem entitled "Remember Me". g) Sealed envelope with a printed garland as centrepiece, bordered with gilt lacy paper and tinselled floral scraps. On the reverse, a poem entitled, "Remembrance", surrounded by a printed gilt border. Containing a perfurmed sachet. h) Card of embossed, lacy paper, hand coloured and silvered. The cover depicts an urn brimming with flowers the body of which conceals a birthday poem, printed on silk. i) Card of embossed paper with a central medallion with a cut paper, chromolithographed picture of a girl and cat. Underneath, the message "To my dear sister". j) Card of embossed, lacy paper, silvered, with a woven backing. Chromolithographed and embossed with a cut scrap rose concealing a poem entitled "Love". k) Card of embossed, silvered, lacy paper mounted on card. The centrepiece is a door that opens to reveal a chromolithographed picture of a girl under a rose bush. Beneath the door is a printed message "I foundly truly love thee", embellished with cut scrap posies. l) Card of lacy paper, gilt and coloured pink. A centrepiece of wide meshed gauze embellished with a chromolithographed bouquet which is surmounted by gauze leaves, a tinsel flower with red bead centre and a handwritten message " My heart is thine, oh then be mine". m) Card of lacy paper, silvered. A central oval chromolithographed picture of two children in a doorway. Cut scrap butterfly on paper hinge. The whole is mounted on embossed paper with scalloped edges. n) Card of embossed, lacy paper, gilt. Embellished with chromolithographed bouquets, the central one concealing a printed poem entitled "Could I be untrue to thee". The whole mounted on card. o) Card with a lacy paper surround decorated with blue. In the centre a chromolithographed picture of a vase of flowers, surrounded by crimped red ribbon beneath a cut scrap fan bearing the words "To my little pet". All hinge mounted on card. p) Card embossed, scalloped edged paper decorated with scrap posies and elaborate centrepiece of scrapwork, green feathers and embossed silver and gilt lacy paper. Panel bearing the printed words "Thou art the light of my life". Handwritten message inside (see notes). q) Embossed, lacy paper, silvered and mounted on blue card. Centrepiece of a chromolithographed picture of two doves surrounded by garlands, beneath a printed poem (see notes). r) Finely embossed lacy paper. Oval central medallion surmounted by cut scrap cherubic head. Another scrap below bearing the words, in gilt "Gift of Love". Second sheet of lacy paper behind. Oval medallion, silvered, to the back of which is affixed a piece of satin, on which is printed a poem entitled "Power of Love". s) Plain paper, of the cheap woodcut variety. Design, hand coloured of a couple under a tree. Beneath a poem (see notes). t) Plain paper, of the cheap woodcut variety. Design hand coloured of a couple in a central medallion surrounded by garlands. Beneath a four line poem in cursive. Inside a long poem, badly spelt.
