Description: | Geminiani (1687-1762), Italian composer, violinist and theorist was born in Italy where he studied under Corelli. In 1714 he left for London where he spent most of the rest of his life. His success in London stemmed from British patrons and their love of Italy; Geminiani held himself out as being Corelli's pupil. He was admired principally as a violinist, accompanying Handel. Little of his work is known except for his concerti grossi op. 3. This portrait is likely to have been painted by the Italian artist Andrea Soldi, about 1703-1771, active in Britain at the time Geminiani was there. | Subjects: | Francesco) portrait (Geminiani | Source: | Vads | Creator: | Artist: Unknown Æ Previously attributed to Soldi, Andrea (Italian painter, ca. 1703-1771, active in Great Britain) | Identifier: | http://www.vads.ac.uk/large.php?uid=8488... | Go to resource |
