Description: | The archive contains papers relating to productions of the Pit Prop Theatre Company, a radical theatre group which was based in Leigh, near Wigan. These include scripts, research notes, programmes, publicity materials, correspondence and photographs. The archive also contains correspondence relating to the funding, administration and closure of the company. The material dates from the company's foundation in 1979 to its closure in 1994. (Extent: 0.88 cubic metres); Handlists and catalogues are available for the papers of Horniman, Dean, Hunt, Joseph, Slade, Nicholson, Pettitt, Monkhouse, Montague, Thrale-Piozzi, North West Playwrights, Donat and "Manchester Guardian". Allardyce Nicholl Collection recorded on on-line catalogue of printed books.
