Description: | A collection of papers relating to his service during the First World War, including 16 photographs, mainly of officers and men of the Lincolnshire Regiment, a signed menu card from his Officer Cadet Battalion, a copy of his commission, various discharge certificates, and an interesting "Pensions Appeal Tribunal Statement" which he made in (?) 1926 giving details of his entire military service. The documents cover his enlistment in September 1914; his service with the 8th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment (63rd Brigade, 21st Division) on the Western Front including involvement in the Battles of Loos, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, and Messines Ridge; his return to the United Kingdom in December 1917 to undergo officer training before posting as a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion Norfolk Regiment (35th Brigade, 12th Division); service with the 7th Norfolks in France from August 1918 during which time he was awarded the MC; and after the Armistice his command of a camp for repatriated German prisoners at Vieg before being discharged in 1920.
