Description: | Ms diary (77pp) recording his service as an NCO with the 1/9th (County of London) Battalion (Queen Victoria's Rifles) The London Regiment (169th Brigade, 56th Division) in France around the Hallencourt area, January 1916 - October 1916, describing in short passages his life in the trenches throughout the year, including the Battle of the Somme and his attack on a German trench for which he was awarded the Military Medal, and his wounding in October 1916 and repatriation to hospital in the United Kingdom.
