Description: | Ms letter (4pp) from Malcolm Macleod, a Private serving in the 9th Battalion Australian Imperial Force, to his cousin, 2 May 1915, describing in detail the Anzac landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 in which his Brigade was the first to land and relating how they charged the Turks, forcing them out of their positions back to their main line of trenches two miles inland from where the Turks then launched a desperate counter-attack, in the course of which Macleod received the wound that had him evacuated to the hospital at Alexandria, where he was to die on 20 May 1915. His letter is accompanied by an ms letter (8pp) written on 25 March 1916 by Sergeant Leslie Coulson of the 2/2nd Battalion London Regiment after the evacuation from the Gallipoli peninsula, containing a description of the desolation of the area.
