Description: | 37 ms letters (96pp) written to his parents in Stockton-on-Tees (October 1914 - November 1918) during his service with 3rd Battalion County of London Yeomanry, covering his embarkation from Avonmouth (April 1915) and landing at Gallipoli (cAugust 1915), his attachment to headquarters, and his later posting to Salonica (November 1916), Palestine (July 1917) and France, with excellent details of conditions at Anzac Cove (August 1915) and good notes on the staff under General Birdwood, the heavy shelling by the Turks, conditions in Salonica (December 1916) and the action against the Turks there, and his feelings on returning to the battalion in France (October 1918); together with 5 ms letters (6pp) written by him to his wife (May 1940) from Lyndhurst, covering his duties at reception centres for British and French troops returning from France following Dunkirk.
