Description: | Wordprocessed transcription (26pp) of a diary kept during his service with the 9th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment (39th Brigade, 13th Division), July 1916 - January 1917, including good descriptions of his voyage out to India via Port Said and Suez (July - August), with comments on the native peoples; a brief stay in India (August - September) spent mostly in hospital with tonsillitis; and his voyage to join the rest of the Battalion in Mesopotamia (September) where he describes the poor rations and living conditions, his involvement in the British operation to capture Kut and his wounding during the battle (December), after which he was evacuated to Basra Hospital and in January sent by ship to Bombay, India for further treatment.
